The British-style brass band has long been a popular art form in Australasia, having spread from Britain in the early part of the last century, but there has also been a rapid growth of interest in Europe, particularly the Benelux and Nordic countries, Switzerland, and increasingly in North America. Many of these countries have also caught the British contesting bug and there are now a large number of national championships and entertainment-style contests. This is a map showing the spread of British-style bands across the world, contesting or otherwise. The deeper the colour, the greater the number of bands per head of population. Clicking on a particular country or region, in the case of England generates a list of bands that currently exist in this area. Click on the individual band name to reveal that band's contest record as currently stored in the Brassstats database. Alternatively, the 'bands by area' may be selected direct via the drop-down list and the map will zoom into the relevant country. You need to upgrade your Flash Player.
